Counselling Sessions

Professionally qualified and accredited counsellors will provide you with a confidential safe space to talk and will answer any questions or concerns about counselling, the legal process, the medical care or any other requests for information.

The Sessions:  Initially you will be offered up to six sessions.  Sessions will last 50 minutes.  You and your counsellor will then review together if further counselling is required or other possibilities.

At Rape Crisis North East we are committed to maintaining client confidentiality.  There are certain exceptional circumstances in which a counsellor may have to break confidentiality for both legal and ethical reasons.  These circumstances are in place to ensure safety for the client and the safety of others.  Should these exceptional circumstances arise your counsellor will endeavour to discuss this with you before taking further action.  Where there is a child protection concern, we adhere to the Children’s First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2011, i.e. where the counsellor feels that there is a risk of significant harm to a young person under the age of 18, or over 18 and defined as a vulnerable adult, for example sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse or through neglect.
